The Nutcracker – A timeless festive season classic
Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit to your local theatre for a dazzling production of the most famous ballet in the world – The Nutcracker. Based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, written by E.T.A. Hoffmann, it tells the story of Marie, a rather sad little girl, whose godfather, Drosselmeyer, gives her a nutcracker doll as a present on Christmas Eve. The toy magically turns into a prince.
When midnight strikes, the world transforms itself into the wintry glitter of Christmas Eve. Toys come alive, the Mouse-king and his mouse-army battle with the Nutcracker Prince and we travel through the Land of Snow to an enchanted place where the magic really begins….
Snow flurries, Christmas treats, princes, love, victories and defeats, all to Tchaikovsky’s rousing score. These are just some of the ingredients that are brought together by the renowned Russian State Ballet.
The Russian State Ballet and Opera House is a showcase for Russian cultural traditions, bringing as they do the passion and vibrancy of the Russian character to this well-known ballet. The company has built an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality which never fail to delight audiences.
Selection of Quotes:

Producer Alexej Ignatow, of Amande Concerts Ltd, who has co-ordinated the UK tour, said: “We are constantly on the lookout for new challenges, to ensure that our opera and ballet audiences get a chance to experience a wide spectrum of various classic pieces.
“With extensive national tours that get our productions seen the length and breadth of the country, we are able to offer national audiences in various theatres an unforgettable experience at a fraction of the price of the major opera houses, all without sacrificing quality. So, continuing to work with theatres all over the UK it is very close to my heart. We aim to deliver top quality productions every year and make new converts wherever we go”.
No experience of ballet is needed to enjoy these classics. Our sets and costume designs, as well as the informative programmes make the productions very accessible and most of all, enjoyable.
