Today is the next of my Shopping Local in Auchterarder series. Today I asked the question what is seasonal right now in Scotland? The answer is root vegetables.
To many, including me, that means carrot, turnip and parsnip but there is a whole lot more to it than that. What about the purple carrots, the golden beetroot and the sweet potato?
Having decided that roasting vegetables was going to be the order of the day, I headed to the butcher and got some shoulder steak to make a warming casserole to accompany the veg.
As you can see from the video I have a lot of peeling and chopping to do before I can start cooking. So, tune in later to see how I get on with the seasonal veg.
Notes on the shopping in the video
Vegetables from Alexa Dunlop
Stewing steak – 1 portion from Allan’s, 1 portion from Simon Howie’s
4 pork ribs from Howie’s
Rosemary infused rapeseed oil from Corbie and Cheip
Altogether this cost me £30 which is quite a lot for me to spend in one expedition but I bought so much veg and 2 portions of stewing steak that this is really more like two shopping excursions rather than one. Check out LangToonTimes.com this evening to see how I get on with my new adventure in shopping local.
