Scotland Eases Lockdown Restrictions

Yesterday, 28th May 2020, Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon advised that Scotland could move to Phase One of the four phase routemap out of lockdown as from today, Friday 29th May.

The biggest change for the majority of people is that you can now meet people from another household – as long as you meet them outside and keep 2m apart.

This change will allow families to meet with grandparents, parents, friends and family in a way they have not been able to do for many weeks.  The Government has asked that any gatherings are kept to a maximum of 8 people and that you mix with only one other household in any given day.

Some sporting activities are also able to resume including angling, bowls, outdoor tennis and golf. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times.

Outdoor workplaces can also resume with places such as garden centres, forestry and environmental management and horticulture.  Associated cafes in such places are only allowed to offer a takeaway option.

For many of us this will mean we can get together with friends and family this weekend.  There are however a few measures to think about to ensure we can do so safely and without putting anyone at risk.

Please ensure that you don’t share any utensils such as cups, glasses, plates, cutlery etc.  Either take your own or use disposable items.  Don’t go into someone else’s house unless absolutely necessary and if you do, please clean any surface you touch preferably before touching it and after.  Using a toilet in another household is to be discouraged and if necessary then you should clean everything used immediately afterwards.  Avoid touching hard surfaces such as walls, tables, chairs etc and if you do touch them, please clean them as soon as possible.

Covid-19 is still infecting people and people are still dying because of this virus.  This relaxation of restrictions does not mean we are out of danger, there is still a danger of more people being infected.  Please take care when you are enjoying meeting with others this weekend and make sure you stay safe.
