The iconic frontage of the former Regal Cinema in Auchterarder may soon be no more.
The long empty property is to be auctioned of next Thursday at the Marriot Hotel in Edinburgh, with expectations of a sale price of approximately £200,000.
Speculation as to what would happen to the property has been rife for years. Planning permission for residential development was granted quite some years ago and plans for demolition of the structure have also been put forward. Nothing however has been done with the building and although it has been on the market for some considerable time, there seems to have been little or no interest.
Sadly, with the property being up for auction it would be nigh on impossible for a local group to be able to save the building at this late stage. It seems such an incredible shame that it could not have been purchased for the community.
Now it just remains to be seen what will happen when the new owner takes over which according to the auction information will be late July.
