On a slightly dreary March afternoon in Auchterarder 30 very excited Rainbow’s and 9 leaders set off in our Midland Docherty’s coach to begin our adventure. The adventure was a trip to Loch Lomond, with a sleepover at Sealife Centre.
We loaded our coach up with all our mats, sleeping bags and clothes and off we set. The girls were excited about seeing all the animals and a new fun venue to have a sleepover in, the parents also looked excited. A night off for them.
Auchterarder Rainbows had applied to the Auchterarder Community Trust in 2017 looking for funding for this extra special sleepover and very luckily got the funding, combined with a generous donation we were able to offer this trip for free to 30 of our girls. Currently we have almost 40 girls in our 2 units in Auchterarder, and we like to ensure that even though we are the youngest group in Girlguiding that the girls still get to experience the excitement of sleepovers.
Back to the adventure, when we arrived at Loch Lomond shores, off we hopped to drop our bags off and on the way to the Bird of Prey Centre. It was loads of fun and the girls enjoyed learning all about the birds, especially the eagle that talked to our guide.
After this we went to McDonald’s for our dinner, it was a short walk but we put on the donat4ed Hi-Vis vests and ensured we walked safely next to the road.
After our dinner we went back to the Sealife Centre to begin our sleepover activities.
We had a tour around the centre and even got to fit in a quick visit to the gift shop. Lots of mermaids were bought that day and taken home. Then onto supper, and movie.
The girls brushed teeth, and off we went to get to sleep in tunnels. Some girls got a little bit of a fright in the morning when they walk up to see a giant fish staring down at them. In the morning we had a magnificent view across Loch Lomond. Unfortunately our adventure had ended and it was time to get the bus back home.
This was a rare opportunity for our Rainbows as we would normally not be able to afford such an exciting sleepover so thank you to our kind donator and of course to the Auchterarder Community Trust.
If your daughter has just turned 5 or will be 5 soon 2nd Auchterarder Rainbows has space available and would love for your daughter to join us on our future adventures.
