Despite best efforts of organisers today’s Picnic In The Park event was a complete wash out.
Thanks are due to a few people who braved the elements even when they weren’t sure that it would be worth their while. The kid’s rides were there but with a bouncy assault course finishing in a slide, safety had to come first, so they didn’t get the chance to even set up. Our Ice Cream vendor appeared and set up then managed to take a rest in his car until we realised it wasn’t worthwhile.
Thanks also to the Rotary Club of Auchterarder and District who set up their gazebo with kids games. Even although it was raining when they arrived, they set up and settled down just in case.
The biggest thanks must go to the hardy souls that helped from the start and set up the gazebos for the bag decorating and selfie station, Annie MacKenzie, Ally Carpenter and Kathleen McRostie. Without their good humour and support the event would not have been ready for visitors.
Sadly, there were no visitors and organisers decided to shut down early rather than wait any longer.
Organising an event in the Scottish summer can always be a bit of a gamble unfortunately this year the gamble did not pay off. Here’s hoping that next year the event has better weather and the local community can come out to enjoy the day.
