Perth & Kinross Council is pleased that works are progressing well with the major refurbishment of the Crematorium which started this June. Since then the chapel has been closed for services but cremations have continued to be provided. However, to allow new cremators to be installed, the Crematorium will temporarily close for cremations this week, with the last day of operation being Thursday 7 September. Cremations are expected to resume in mid-November and, during this period, funeral directors will be able to assist with arranging cremations at alternative crematoria, including Dundee, Falkirk, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline.
The Garden of Remembrance remains open. Changes have been made to the entrance on Crieff Road and driveway as part of the A9/A85 road works. The main Crematorium car park is also closed and limited public car parking space has been made available and is signed on the left hand side of the entrance driveway near the building. Visitors can also turn via the signposted one way system in operation at the car park area. For visitors who require access to water, a new water point has been installed at the Summer Garden, outside the construction areas.
Cremated remains will still be able to be dispersed in the gardens and there will be no charge for this for the duration of the crematorium refurbishment.
For further information, please call our crematorium staff on 01738 459659 or email ESCremations@pkc.gov.uk. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind visitors that the Book of Remembrance can now be viewed at North Inch Community Campus Library, Gowans Terrace, Perth, PH1 5BF during their opening hours, where it will remain until the Crematorium is re-opened.
We apologise for the disruption and any inconvenience during these essential works and would thank the public for their patience and understanding for this period.
