The meeting of the Integration Joint Board this morning made the decision regarding the future of Perth and Kinross Care Homes. Parkdale Care Home in Auchterarder will stay open.
Parkdale in Auchterarder and Beechgrove in Perth had both been earmarked for closure. A review carried out by the Chief Officer offered 4 options with the recommended option being that of closing Beechgrove and keeping Parkdale open. This option was put forward to the Integration Joint Board in January however, the decision was deferred until March when more budgetary information became available.
Residents, staff and families of residents in both care homes mounted a strong and well supported campaign to try and resist the closures. Unfortunately for Beechgrove their efforts were in vain. For Parkdale however, there will be many locals sleeping easier tonight knowing that their loved ones will continue to receive the same high standard of care in familiar surroundings.
Local MP Luke Graham said “After a hard fought campaign by the community, it is good to see Parkdale is here to stay. I will continue to work with Council colleagues to ensure Parkdale is here for the long term”
Auchterarder community was shocked at the proposed closure and a support group was set up which helped with contacting members of PKC and NHS Tayside to appeal for the retention of Parkdale as a local facility. It will be a great relief to the community as a whole to know that Parkdale will still be available in the foreseeable future.
