The season of Lent is almost upon us and many will be giving up something for 40 days in recognition of the 40 days and nights Jesus spent in the desert being tempted by the devil.
In recent years many organisations have benefited from this which has led to a number of 40 day challenges arising. Many times these challenges are not strictly based on the observance of Lent but rather on the opportunity for the wider population to give to those in need.
The Trussell Trust has it’s “Donate 40p for 40 days” there is a 40 days of generosity challenge and there is the one I am going to attempt. 40 bags in 40 days the declutter.
How many of us have clothes we don’t fit into but are loathe to throw away? If you haven’t worn it in a year, give it up. Which is probably my first 10 bags. Household items that someone else could use or want, how many bags could you fill?
The Red Cross in Auchterarder are supporting me in this challenge and are happy to take donations from anyone else who wishes to get involved. So you know anything that could be useful will be going to a good cause.
Oh and for those with old towels that need to go, don’t bin them, PADS can use them for the dogs when they are wet, there’s another bag.
There are so many things that can be done to help others, sometimes we just need a push in the right direction. So whether you are observing Lent as a Christian or joining in a 40 day challenge those in need will benefit which can only be a good thing.
