Next Wednesday the 29th August, Perth and Kinross Council will hold a Special Council meeting regarding the Proposed Local Development Plan (LDP). This meeting is for the purpose of considering representations received about the plan and the Council responses. This is prior to submitting any unresolved responses to the Scottish Ministers (DPEA) for Examination.
One of the most interesting responses in that regarding parking in Auchterarder. The response to the numerous representations states –
“In addition, the Council is pursuing option to acquire land for additional off-street spaces in the areas where demand is highest. To date at least one potential option has been identified whilst others are also being pursued. The identified option involves an extension to the Crown Inn Car Park with the potential to provide an additional 25 spaces. The Council is currently in negotiations with the landowner with a view to purchasing the site. Progress on this project is expected to be made independently of the LDP.”
Whilst this may seem a positive move forward in the decades old request for more parking in Auchterarder, that it is to continue to be “independent of the LDP” is not so positive. This could well mean there there is no commitment from PKC to continue efforts to improve local parking as it will not be in the Local Development Plan.
Hopefully our local ward Councillors will take up the cause and fight for parking to be included in the plan and therefore have it a continuing part of consideration for future development in the area.
An additional 25 spaces would be a positive move forward and make life much easier for the community. Local residents eagerly await the outcome of negotiations.
