Gleneagles Hotel, the grand old lady of Perthshire is having some work done. Owners Ennismore have recently been reported as applying for permission to construct what seems like a whole new development at Easterton Farm, and applications are in for changes to the Spa and Deseo area. Another planning application is now with Perth and Kinross Council regarding the North Lodge.
The North Lodge has most recently been utilised as a sales office for Glenmor seasonal ownership team, it has previously gone through many uses including the administrative and retail centre for the Shooting School. A beautiful building, the North Lodge could be a much bigger part of the Gleneagles experience and if planning permission for this upgrade is granted it could well be.
Over the last few years the building has suffered from a lack of investment with parts of the building deteriorating because of this. It is to be hoped that the application which is sympathetic to the original structure succeeds and will allow this small part of the hotel footprint to flourish again.
If the application is successful, the intention is to have the hair and beauty team based in the North Lodge. Creating a stand alone beauty offering with top interior design firm Lind+Almond creating a high end interior, the plans will extend to guests the luxury five star experience they come to Gleneagles to enjoy. Whether guests who have just been pampered will appreciate the distance and elements as they travel back to the main hotel remains to be seen.
It is heartening to see Ennismore giving Gleneagles back some of its previous grandeur. Too long has it been marking time, sitting waiting for something to happen. With Ennismore doing so much, it looks like Gleneagles Hotel will remain as one of the best resorts in the world.
