From Paris to Perthshire chic: Gleneagles announces the launch of its new brasserie


Gleneagles has unveiled an exciting new brasserie, inspired by the grand Parisian cafés of the early twentieth century.

With a menu that focuses on Scottish seasonal produce and showcases the breadth of fresh ingredients on Gleneagles’ doorstep, The Birnam Brasserie offers elegant dining in a relaxed and buzzy setting.

The result is a warm, atmospheric and inviting space, perfect for any occasion – from hearty family suppers, to three-course romantic dinners, and from long, lazy lunches, to cocktails and oysters at the bar with friends.

Traditional brasserie and bistro dishes like steak frites, daube de boeuf, moules marinières, and sole grenobloise showcase the delicious simplicity of classic French cooking, while American favourites like slaw dogs, burgers, pancakes and waffles, offer comfort food for all ages.

Indulgent, French-inspired desserts – including Ile flottante, tarte fine aux pommes, pistachio and chocolate pot, vanilla creme brulee and coupe exotique – offer sweet temptation at any time of day.

The large cocktail and cold food bar is the centrepiece of the restaurant, featuring charcuterie, cheeses and seafood.  Here, guests can enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif whilst soaking up the theatrical hubbub of the open kitchen, where the chefs can be seen chopping, grilling, cooking and plating the food.

Cocktails like the French 75, the Bloody Mary and the Sidecar, which are interpretations of classics from the iconic Harry’s Bar in Paris, have been given a modern twist, while an outstanding list of French wines and champagnes, served by the carafe and bottle, offers great choice to accompany lunch or dinner.

The relaxed and elegant ambience of the brasserie is created by the beautiful design makeover of the space, and the carefully curated French-inspired décor and furnishings.

The hand-painted timber shopfront, antique mirrored panels, arched windows, and low-level linen curtains make subtle references to quintessential French café design.

A striking white, fan-shaped marble mosaic floor design – which spans the whole restaurant and echoes the timeless elegance of the great Parisian brasseries – transports guests straight to the heady days of early twentieth century Paris as soon as they step across the entrance.

The social hub of the brasserie – a beautiful ‘Winter Garden’, with climbing plants and a roaring open fire – is reminiscent of a continental courtyard.  At the other end of the restaurant, a spacious dining room, originally built to house the hotel’s 1930s swimming pool, showcases a stunning vaulted ceiling and octagonal dome sky lights.  The outline of this pool, which still exists below, is celebrated subtly through the beautiful green mosaic pattern on the floor.

The Birnam Brasserie is open for lunch and dinner (12.00 – 10.00pm), Monday to Sunday.  From mid-summer onwards, the restaurant will also start serving breakfast and Sunday Champagne Brunch.  See for details and menu, or to book a table.
