The Three Inch Fools, a national touring company acclaimed for their fast-paced and musically driven approach to Shakespeare, will be coming to Innerpeffray Chapel on 18th & 19th July, bringing performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Hamlet.
Five actors, with all manner of musical instruments and plenty of character-swapping, will present an inventive take on two of Shakespeare’s most renowned plays as part of their national summer tour.
On Wednesday 18th July, The Three Inch Fools will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream: the much-loved comic tale of runaway lovers, beguiling potions and an unfortunate individual who gets turned into a donkey… Audiences are then invited back the following night for Hamlet: Shakespeare’s masterpiece of loss and the supernatural, poetry and revenge.
Although almost as different as it is possible for two plays by the same writer to be, the five-strong company of Fools bring both of Shakespeare’s celebrated plays vividly to life in these iconic productions. Using their traditional fast-paced style, the Three Inch Fools relish the challenge of performing two such different shows at the same venue.
‘We want to show Shakespeare off to everyone,’ says Co-Founder and Director James Hyde, ‘and excite a whole new generation of Shakespeare lovers to get to know his plays in all their vibrancy. Through our own high-paced performance style and musical talents we would say we have found our own unique take on Shakespeare.’
The Three Inch Fools specialise in bringing Shakespeare to life in innovative and unexpected ways, through bold choreography and innovative sound-worlds, in a way that is certain to delight and surprise those already familiar with the play, and to call out to those who have yet to discover it. Thanks to the work of award-winning composer Stephen Hyde, original music plays a pivotal role in both of these productions, cleverly helping to elevate Shakespeare’s text from the page, and to recreate the same dynamic atmosphere that Elizabethan audiences would have experienced.
Over the years, The Three Inch Fools have performed in venues ranging from castles and cathedrals to bookshops and seaside piers – all the world’s a stage! They are particularly excited to be returning to Innerpeffray Chapel this year, and to be performing two of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays in such a beautiful historic location.
