You may have noticed a larger than usual number of cyclists in the area today. Along with a number of arrow signs and a “Feed Station” at the school. That’s because Auchterarder was on the route of the Brewin Dolphin Ochil Hills 100 Sportive organised by UK Cycling Events.
This sold out cycling event started and finished in Lochore Meadows Country Park, Lochgelly. With the option of cycling 42, 75 or 100 miles, Auchterarder as you can imagine was part of the 100 mile route. Taking in Glendevon and Dunning as part of the additional mileage having already done Kinross and Milnathort with Bridge of Earn and Abernethy still to go on the return.
This event is one of a series of six events throughout the country offering some of the best riding scenery in the country. The opportunity to purchase a Brewin Dolphin Velo Club ticket adds another level to the event with exclusive add ons such as complimentary breakfast and lunch, cycling with a VIP and a goodie bag. Although not a competitive event, riders will be given their timings so they may compare with last year or friends and club mates.
With hundreds of entries for each of these events, it is easy to see that cycling is becoming ever more popular in the UK. Maybe it’s time to see if that old adage is true and try cycling again, you never know, you may be taking part in next years event.
