Auchterarder could soon have Vehicle Activated Signs [VAS] on 4 approaches to the town in an attempt to reduce the speed of approaching vehicles.
This Wednesday a meeting of the Perth and Kinross Council Environment and Infrastructure Committee will be asked to approve the list of new VAS sites to be installed from 2018/2019 to 2019/2020. The programme is scheduled to take two financial years to complete.
A report from the Executive Director [Housing and Environment] recommends that over 40 sites have VAS installed throughout the Perth and Kinross area. The proposed sites in Auchterarder are Feus, Townhead, Orchil Road East and Orchil Road West.
As has been seen at recent Community Council meetings, the issue of speeding vehicles within the town is something that greatly concerns local residents. Anecdotal feedback from Aberuthven and Blackford residents would seem to suggest that the installation of VAS has contributed to a reduction in the number of vehicles speeding through these villages.
With approval of the recommendations, the four main access points to Auchterarder would have these signs and drivers would be encouraged to reduce their speed before accessing the centre of town.
