Tonight was the first public meeting of the Auchterarder Community Project. The project was born from a simple social media comment which got tremendous community support. A Facebook page was set up and a public meeting arranged.
At the meeting, Sarah Mackie introduced herself and Ian Emmett as the instigators of the project and explained how the initial idea of a cinema had grown into a multi use arts space. The information about the old cinema available at the moment is that it has been taken off the market for the moment. This leaves a question about a suitable space going forward.
The question was asked about using the space available to the community at the moment, rather than try to move forward with a huge new project. Gauge public support for events and move forward from there.
With support from Friends of the Aytoun Hall and other community groups it would be possible to hold events such as pop up cinema showings and artistic exhibitions sooner rather than later. This would also negate the need for a huge community project with no certainty that there would be the continuing support required.
At the end of the meeting the consensus from those attending was that a good way to go forward would be to set up some events for the existing facilities and move forward from there.
Sarah and Ian thanked everyone for their time and the excellent response to the initial idea. All who are interested in helping with events and moving forward were asked to leave their details so Sarah and Ian can contact them with updates as they move forward with the ideas brought forward to date.
Watch this space for their next update.
