Representatives from the Lang Toon Childcare Hub, Auchterarder and District Community Council and The Community School of Auchterarder Parent Council met with representatives of Perth and Kinross Council on Thursday evening of this week.
The meeting was to discuss the problems with lack of after school childcare in the local area. The Childcare Hub had recently carried out a survey of after school childcare requirements for the upcoming school year starting in August. This survey showed there will be a shortfall of over 70 places at the start of the school year unless the current provisions are expanded.
This takes into account local nurseries, the Lang Toon Kids Club and local childminder provision. Unless there is a noticeable expansion in provision, some families will be struggling to cope with work and childcare requirements in the new school year.
This problem is not only in Auchterarder, comments have been coming in from Blackford and the surrounding area of problems with finding after school provision for working parents.
Good news has however come in after the meeting on Thursday evening. The Early Education and Childcare Strategy Team at PKC have arranged for the Lang Toon Kids Club, based at the school, to double in size. From August there will be 50 places available with names being taken in advance of the Annual Registration Period in May. To add you child(ren) to the waiting list please email EilidhTurner@pkc.gov.uk. A group text and email should have been sent to nursery and primary parents from The Community School of Auchterarder yesterday afternoon to advise them of this new availability.
This is fantastic news for the Childcare Hub and local families who have done so much work in so little time. If you would like to contact the group to ask some questions or give them some information please go to their Facebook Page here.
