Tullibardine distillery has released an exclusive single malt whisky in its Custodians Collection, the Tullibardine 1962. The release joins the Tullibardine 1952 and 1970 to form the brand’s Custodians collection.
Tullibardine 1962 is the contents of the Perthshire distillery’s last two casks of the rare malt distilled on the 27th of December 1962, which has evolved over the last half-century with the changing conditions of the surrounding Ochil Hills. With only 250 bottles available and retailing at £1,990 the expression is set to attract whisky aficionados and collectors worldwide.
Matured in American Oak casks for 52 years, the vintage release showcases Tullibardine spirit at its best. On the nose, the whisky features tantalising hints of a lush green meadow, mingled with citrus fruit. These notes combine, leading to floral parma violets and subtle allspice. The addition of water reveals layers of zesty lemon and pineapple, filling the mouth with desiccated coconut and smooth dark chocolate on the finish.
The Custodians Collection currently includes the oldest and rarest whisky ever to be released by the distillery, Tullibardine 1952, and Tullibardine 1970, which received the prestigious Whisky Magazine Editor’s Choice award. The expression is also the highest scoring whisky from the past five years as judged by the expert panel following an extensive blind tasting process.
John Torrance, Distillery Manager at Tullibardine Distillery, said: “This is truly a very special release for the brand and distillery, and one which is precious to us here at Tullibardine. The 1962 makes up a trio of limited and sought-after malts, which are amongst the finest in the world. We hope that our customers join us to celebrate this historic release.’
Keith Geddes, Master Blender at Tullibardine, said: “The Tullibardine 1962 is a work of art, capturing the essence of Tullibardine and the effects of the surrounding environment. This is reflected in this special release, which following a lot of patience has blossomed to become a complex and luxurious whisky.”
Ownership of one of the Custodians expressions comes with a lifetime membership to the Tullibardine Custodians Club in recognition of loyalty to the brand and for helping it grow. To find out more about the Club and Custodians Collection, visit http://www.tullibardine.com/
